I've been asked to ask you what has been done to that YZ motor..... My Carl is getting ready for adulthood on a Husky 250 in Heaven. The Husky 125 is well on the way. Have re jetted the KTM leaner on the pilot so it should reduce load ups and the advantage you had on the fastest YZ motor in the club. Hardman said he will take it easy this year as he has the No. 1 plate and we don't. Have finished my RM 370 1976 to as new. Not sure if you are running in that event. If so I might start it and… Continue

Maybe the rhetorical starting point here should be "Can you lose it if you never had it to begin with" but I think we'll just pass that one over.
What I'm talking about here is the 'other' side of vintage racing. I've rarely heard it said, so maybe it's just me. But I reckon there are others in the same boat.
Back in my youth I was a pretty hard core bike rider - street, dirt, racing etc. I was probably of average to above average ability depending on the discipline,… Continue

First of all, I want to say that I sold C&J Racing frames about six years ago. I have no business ties with C&J now, and have had none for many years. I have not been in hiding, EVER! I still have my original phone number(760)7281707, which I've always had(See VMX #19, 2003) I don't know the people trying to find me, but I'm as close as your phone and I will be happy to talk with any of you. Just call.
Secondly, I'm not internet savvy and have never looked at the C&J website.… Continue

when i sold my wrecking business , i kept most of the husky stuff but over the years sold all but a 75 cr360 mikkola replica , this bike has been in storage for approx 15 years and not been started for approx ten . it is the genuine article. and in original condition except rear guard . As i have had no interest in the sport for some time i genuinely have no idea of its true value in its "as is " condition. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Fossil Garvey- and Elaine did so much work for the Far South CoastMCC, and the the Hogg,at Surfair, are having a well earned rest. The baton went to Leanne Gordon who has been responsible for the running of the Hogg for years now is probably fed up with the small p politics and all the work involved in getting this great meeting running, that I fear she may have a neck full as well. With some guidance from Fossil,Elaine and Leanne we may get it going again but a few of us are going to have to… Continue

I know its not vmx but a good number of vmx riders from Sydney and down south attended this event last year, whos coming for a ride this year. Few heaven guys attended previously so would be good to see a few come along as a pre warm up to heavens regular riding season
Ricki and myself have to get this monkey off our backs after last years dismal efforts.
Does anyone have a date the event will be on this year, it was on valentines day 2009 so would expect it will be… Continue

Since the Heaven web is still broken I thought that I would post a couple of photos from that last meet.
The Heaven commitee are meeting this Saturday to set dates for next year and decide for the new look for our website. We will keep you posted.
The last race day was run in oven heat temperatures but as far as I know every one turned up on the starting line and raced all weekend. Matter of fact the racing was realy good because the pointscore was down to the last day.

As you'll recall from Part 1, I've somehow lost the plot and become a Thumper fanatic. Persevering in the face of reason with a modified SP370 in an attempt to prove to myself and the rest of the world that a four-stroke trailbike is indeed the path to Nirvana, I've face-planted good and hard into the realisation that the concept is good but the mechanism woefully lacking. Or put another way, the SP370 isn't the path to Thumper salvation.
Of course I always knew this. My problem had… Continue

These days, I race vintage MX on a small bore 2-stroke - an RM125M. I've also got a 1980 YZ250 under restoration. And I race some modern grasstrack on an 05 YZ125. Before that were a few more bikes like an RM400N and a Husky CR500. All 2-strokes. I like the little zingers especially - light, fast, manoeuverable, and cheap to run. Yep, I like my 2-strokes.
But it wasn't always that way.
Like many I started out on a small bore two-stroke - a GT80MX way back in 1975. But I… Continue

You know, this restoring old dirtbikes is a helluva fun thing, but man is it expensive!
When I first got into the whole vintage thing, it blew me away as I bought up big on old magazines and assorted memorobilia, snaffled a few basket cases to do up, and attended my first ever vintage MX events.
This is back in 1998 or so, mind you, so I was hardly in the vanguard of the scene. But it was still relatively early in the piece and most people didn't have a clue that there was such… Continue

After not seeing sidecar cross for over 20yrs. the small town of Dalby, about 3 hours west of Brisbane, showed plenty of excitement towards the teams when they put on a static display in the local Big W shopping plaza during saturdays peak shopping hours.
Flyers where handed out and the three sidecars on display were the centre on attention as both young and old were keen to find out when they might get to see them in action.
With the local track just 2ks out of town it was a small… Continue

I thought I would test out this blog business by trying to describe what I am hoping
to achieve over the off season to prepare for next year.
First on the list is;
CR125M2 - I have two of these one of which I have owned since 1977. It has sat under my Dad's house since 1979 when I parked it there after getting a CR125RZ for that season. Wish I still had that one too. It is in pretty poor condition as it was exposed to the elements all those… Continue
