"Tim if I did that I would have to find another bike to ride. I am partial to Suzuki RM's, I raced them in the 70's and found I was better on a RM125 than CR125. Had a YZ250B that I really liked as well. I would like to get a few more…"

Gday all

Once upon a time in a far far far away land (Perth) was a Suzuki RM400N 1979 leaning up against a shed, this was 1999 and the bike was offered to me for $200, i just couldn,t say no.
I got the bike to run after adding fresh fuel and knew it would be a keeper.

In 2002 i moved to Alice Springs and my RM400 sat in the shed, i bought a DRZ400 and raced Finke Desert race the following year finishing 46th, this was the start of my MX career aged 37. In 2005 the 30th anniversary of Finke i offered to race my RM400 but i got no reply from the Finke committe and the bike was still in the condition i had bought it ...so i raced my 05 RMZ450 finished 72nd with the big end bearing gone....The railway spike you get for finishing Finke cost me $5500.

July 2008 i rolled my RM400 into the backyard and washed of the dust and all the redback spiders, took some photo's. Once back in the workshop i stripped the whole bike down, every nut an bolt from the front wheel to the rear wheel, the following was completed:

Powder Coat frame
Re - cover seat
Ohlins rear suspension - revalved and sprung
K&N air filter
New head stem bearings
New swingarm bearings
Rims and spokes replaced and relaced
Sourced all new chain tensioner and chain guide parts
All bearings inside engine replaced
Rebore to 0.50 second oversize
New clutch and springs
All seals replaced
Pro Form exhaust pipe and muffler
DC Plastics... (I dont like em but no $$$ the change again)
Forks fitted with new springs and seals, fresh oil
Tank is original after many days of polishing
New graphics
Carby kit fitted
All cables replaced
New handlebars, bar pad, levers, grips.

The end cost in Oct 2009 is around $5000
Parts only as all the labour was completed by myself with the exception of fitting new tyres.
