Once upon a time in a far far far away land (Perth) was a Suzuki RM400N 1979 leaning up against a shed, this was 1999 and the bike was offered to me for $200, i just couldn,t say no.
I got the bike to run after adding fresh fuel and knew it would be a keeper.
In 2002 i moved to Alice Springs and my RM400 sat in the shed, i bought a DRZ400 and raced Finke Desert race the following year finishing 46th, this was the start of my MX career aged 37. In 2005 the 30th anniversary of Finke i offered to race my RM400 but i got no reply from the Finke committe and the bike was still in the condition i had bought it ...so i raced my 05 RMZ450 finished 72nd with the big end bearing gone....The railway spike you get for finishing Finke cost me $5500.
July 2008 i rolled my RM400 into the backyard and washed of the dust and all the redback spiders, took some photo's. Once back in the workshop i stripped the whole bike down, every nut an bolt from the front wheel to the rear wheel, the following was completed:
