About the Classifieds Service

The OzVMX Classifieds Service is an automated system that allows you to submit your own advertisement. It is a simple system to use, and should be fairly self-explanatory. However please read on for some basic instructions on its use, as well as some rules of use.

Or, if you already know how to use the system, follow this link.

Rules of Use

1. The Service is free.

2. The Service is aimed at Australian and New Zealand readers as OzVMX is aimed at that audience. However, there is an 'International' section in each category, where readers from other countries may post their ads. I will monitor this and if it ends up being too much trouble to manage, particularly in terms of my costs for disk space, I may rethink the approach. If you are from overseas, please take care to only use the International category, and make sure you include your full location and contact details.

3. All ads must be appropriate. That is - about the subject (ie vintage dirtbikes and not Cialis), not too long and not contain inappropriate words or links.

4. All ads are moderated. That is, you submit your ad, and I will check it before it gets published. This means it may take up to 48 hours for your ad to appear on the site.

5. Commercial advertising is a no-no. I will be a little tolerant as some Australian suppliers who look after the vintage market have used the old manual service in the past, and I am OK with this. Again, it's something I will monitor. If you are unsure email me first. Commercial advertising is welcomed through the Google Adwords system. There is a Google ads bar at the top of the screen, and a link in that for commercial advertisers. Google Adwords is a good system for getting your advertising out there, but it's really up to you if this system is worth trying. I neither recommend nor discourage its use.

How to use

All visitors can view and respond to advertisements. I urge respondents to do so only if they are genuine, and I ask all advertisers to take care with respondents. It is highly likely that scammers will take advantage of this system. Please read the note at the bottom of this page.

You must register with the Classifieds Service to submit an advert. You can of course use your Forum username and password.

When submitting an ad, please complete all fields. You do not need to enter the price or your contact details in the body of your ad, scroll down the submit form and you'll see there are separate fields for Location, Contact and Price.

You may submit a photo with your ad. You will however need to size your image properly using your photo editing software. The image must not be bigger than 640x640 and/or 100kb. If you are unable to do this, you can submit your ad and email me your photo for editing. Email OzVMX on webmaster@ozvmx.com

Advertisements are displayed by category. When you visit a category, you'll see the ads listed down the page. Each shows the details of the advert, however to respond to an ad, you must view it in full. To do so, click on the title of the ad you are interested in. This displays the Advertisement Details page. You can read the ad in a more readable layout, as well as either reply to the ad, or forward it via email to a friend.

Although the Service is free, it has the potential to run me over my diskspace allocation, which may incur extra costs. If you are a regular advertiser, consider donating a small sum to help keep this site afloat. There is a link at the bottom of the screen for this.

Warning. OzVMX has received this warning from an advertiser.
Just wanted to let you know of a scam currently doing the rounds so you can warn advertisers on your site. I have had 2 scam responses to my For Sale ad & as we have been targeted previously by the same sort of scam at work I wanted to warn other OZVMX guys so none of us get ripped off!! Basically the seller gets an email from a person stating that they are interested in your for sale item, they agree to purchase & offer to pay with a cheque from their partner/client/friend etc. They offer to pay more than your asking price & the extra $$ is to cover freight costs/commission etc. When the cheque clears you are meant to send them the extra money left over after freight costs etc but…. Somehow, they can cancel the original payment & you are out of pocket for the amount you sent back to them! I don’t know how this cancelling can be done after cheque has cleared but we have heard of it happening to other people. SO BEWARE.

Some more on this one:
Cheques take at least one month to clear from an overseas bank. If it appears in your account it is only your bank clearing the funds. The overseas bank has yet to clear the funds. This is how the scam works, when you say the cheque has cleared and forward the leftover, the scammer then stops the cheque on their end. The cheque money is stopped immediately then the bank here takes their money back. I am paraphrasing what appeared on 'Fatbaq.com', so I am no international banking expert.
