Legends Race 2006

The golden years of Moto-X in Aussie MX were during the late 70’s and early 80’s. A time when hand-built factory works bikes ruled the roost. Great races between riders like Gall, Bell, Gunter, Williams and Armstrong became the stuff of legends. On July 23 2006, the time came to relive this wonderful time again at SJMCC Coolum in Queensland during the last round of the Aussie MX champs. A 3 lap parade was followed by a 5 lap feature race during the Sunday lunch break.

Darren Smart was on-hand (well, more exactly he was on track in the thick of the action), and he sent us these pics of the day. Sadly there had been a lot of rain leading up to the event and a very slippery, muddy track greeted the riders, but to their credit they got out there and turned it on for the crowd. By all accounts the crowd loved it...

For the record, Steve Dinsdale, Brian Fleming, Darren Smart, James Deakin, Scott Bishop, Dave Armstrong, and Andrew Bailey were all battling for top five honors but in the end it was Steve Dinsdale from Brian Fleming with Darren Smart in 3rd.

Darren said in his email "Big thanks to Bill Nolan and Russell Williamson for getting us all together and supplying most of the bikes - there is already talk of another legends race at Conondale next year, now, I am off to the back of the shed to drag my push bike out, I need to do some training".
