Coopers Gully Grasstrack 2005

The Far South Coast Motorcycle Club once again hosted their almost annual Coopers Gully grasstrack on Sunday 26 Septmber 2005.

The event primarily caters to modern bikes with classes for both Juniors and Seniors, but the club includes both an Over 40s class and a 'Classics' class which as is often the case loosely translates to anything Pre 85.

A few of the ACT boys ventured down. We'd been looking forward to this event for a while as we've ridden previous events and it really is a good one. The track is laid out on some lovely rolling hills not a couple of kilometres from the middle of Bega and features deep loamy soil and some great elevation changes.

This year's event was no exception with a fantastic long track with some nice looping uphills and tight off-camber downhills. Although the classics rollup was a bit below par, those of us that did turn up had a brilliant day. The weather was perfect, overcast and cool, just right for some hard fast riding. The club ended up changing the format a little due to class sizes and this left the Over 40s race immediately followed by the classics, so that tested the fitness levels a little. Man there were some red faces in the pits after each round.

The track copped a fair hiding through the day and ended up pretty rutted and whooped out, which jarred a few of the fillings loose, but it was a Helluva lot of fun just the same. Everyone enjoyed the day, and as always we will definitely be back next year.

If you live in Sydney or the South Coast, make a date to get along next year. It's natural terrain grasstrack at its best.
