Events > Conondale 2007 Conondale Classic August 2007Story and Photos Wiltec Industries Conondale Classic:Green Park, QLD. "They do things differently in QLD" is a phrase commonly heard by those of us who live in other areas of this Country. That "laid back" or less uptight approach is probably due to the fact that the local and State authorities haven't completely regulated the fun out of everything yet. This approach shone through in the second running of the Conondale Classic. The two day meeting put on by QVMX and the Sunshine Coast M/Cycle club was a Cracker. The track, as most of us know, is a motocross icon in Australia. There was a large turnout of competitors and very well presented machinery. The VMX scene is very much alive and doing well in the Sunshine State, and the racing didn't disappoint either. There were some epic battles on the track. The races between Michael Bamford and Brad Van Barrelo in the pre75/78 125, were as good you would see - see photo of No 90 and No 69 crossing the finish line. There were many class acts on display. The Cavell brothers,Bill Nolan,John Hafey, Shane Wilson,Damian Crane,Pete Lovering, Tam Paul and John Kittle to name but a few. Vic Drew and Bruce"Magoo" McFarland showed some fine style and picked up some some well earned places along the way. A great addition to the end of the program on Sunday were the addition of three "novelty" races:" State of Origin": "Relay Race" and a "Brands Race".These were a real highlight and enjoyed by all-probably none more so than Trevor Perren, whose "Worms Team" finished third in the Relay Race. As always, events of this magnitude cannot be run without the volunteers. Trevor Perron, Tony Browne, Stephen Peirce, Marion Gluestein and Kylie Black to name but a few. They are the lifeblood of this sport and many others and are to be commended for their efforts. And finally, the SES, Wiltec Industries, Motul Oils and Motowreck at Yandina - all contributed to what will hopefully become a Classic that will run for many years to come.
