Barleigh Ranch Two Day VMX
24 October 2004
Mike McMillan reckons the first Hunter MCC 2 Day VMX event was pretty
damn good. Here's what he thought...
The Raymond Terrace Barleigh Ranch race was a great day of no pressure
racing - although some guys raced for the proverbial "sheep station",
others were just as happy steadily "chasing the sheep around".
About 40 riders rolled up so some classes were combined e.g.. Pre '75
& '78, Evo & Pre 85. Plenty of races were had with the usual three
rounds of three laps, as well as 3 more open class races for "Clubmen"
and "Expert" rankings.
Weather was sunny with a cooling breeze, and the track was good and dry
but just a touch bumpy for Pre 75 bikes because of the recent wet weather
and the practice the previous day. Stack (the Ranch caretaker) and his
brother Roger kept the track in good shape by watering it all day during
the racing. Most riders thought it was pretty good all round.
There were a couple of impressive runs that stood out - from the rider
of a Yamaha YZ 400D (name unknown) belting the old bone shaker around
in the lead of his class, the young guy on the Yam IT250 giving the Open
Evo class a thorough hiding, and old stager Rob Cheffings winning the
last race in the combined Pre '85 250 on his twin shocker Honda.
Here's some pics of the day.
